Chapter 11: Raining Rockets

After we claimed the beach, burned the dead beasts and gave a propper burial for our fallen brethren, we continued our pursuit after the Skaven that fled the battle earlier. The Beastmen were dead but even a single Skaven alive can still pose a threat, like rats they are hard to kill.
We ventured forth over the grasland with the beach still in sight when we saw an Empire ship sailing away from the island and on the beach soldiers being deployed with some kind of war machine.
"Finaly, something else than Beastmen, Skaven or Undead" I sighed "Alright brethren, let's not make any hasty decisions. Men are always short-sighted and quick to anger". We moved a bit closer until I ordered the troops to a halt.

All of a sudden we saw a projectile being launched from the war machine and came towards us with a whistling sound. It exploded near us and a couple of Lothern Sea Guard were knocked into the air, crashing down a couple of metres away. "Damn them all! To war, my brethren, let them hear the Dragon's Roar"
Inmediately the Ellyrian Reavers took off towards the left flank, getting out of sight from the Handgunners.

Shadow Warriors were already ahead, as usual, and apeared from the forest nearby the Handgunners. They took aim and shot a couple of them down. Sealandir stayed near me, running with the Sea Guard in anticipation of the combat we were going to be having against the Greatswordsmen. A shot could be heard and near me a bullet landed on the ground "Sniper between the Handgunners!" I yelled, hoping the Reavers and Warriors would handle him. They did. Arrows were fired and then the Handgunners were on the run.

Again we saw bright flares light up at their war machine, two projectiles were fired and came with a whistling sound towards us.
We all dug even though a direct hit wouldn't be something you walk away from but as we heard the crashing sounds around, nobody got hurt. Both projectiles missed and we marched onwards towards the Greatswordsmen unit, 20 man strong.
I called upon the High Magic and summoned a tempest above them.
Since I became an Archmage, magic came more easily. A storm formed over their heads and wreaked havoc among their ranks, killing a lot and thus forcing them to run away.

At last we came in charging reach of the war machine with the rallied Greatswordsmen and with one combined charge we ended them.
There were survivors and we are merciful so we sended them with Guards we could spare back to Oriour Dakthai for questioning.

"Gather around, brethren, let's rest for a moment and then continue the hunt after the Skaven! We let no evil walk upon this island! The fate of our mission depend on it!" I almost roared.

Chapter 10: The Infestation and Cleansing

In the following days I wrote a letter, informing the Counsil of High Elves of our finding but not about my new companion at his discretion. He called himself Ia'anandor or by his past brethren also called Brightsword.
We stayed for a week. The soldiers were making the camp more suitable and I buried myself in the scrolls and book of old. A lot of texts were abstract, to say the least, but with the guidance of Ia'anandor I could decipher much. I was lucky because this ruined building belonged to an Elven Archmage that had kept a diary of his findings, including a way to elevate himself to the titel of Archmage. Until one day I realised I was participating in some sort of game all the time where as the scrolls were challenging me in to understanding the winds of magic and how far I could go. Curious to how far this 'game' would go, I kept on 'playing'.
Suddenly I felt dizzy and fell down on the floor by the overwhelming knowledge coming together in my mind.
I understood the weaving of magic better, how it came to be and how dangerous the involvement of Chaos is in wielding magic.

The next day I received word from one of my messengers that an expedition of archeologists were underway to study the extraordinary site and with gold to aid me in my mission. I sent the messenger back with a new expansion order: the construction of a harbour in Oriour Dakthai. We need more funds for the cause, who better to help us than the traders themselves.
I ordered the troops to get ready to move north towards the sea. If in the near future an outpost will be constructed near the archeological site then I wanted to be sure the nearest beach head was safe.

We moved north, untill we arrived at the beach. In the distance we saw madness at work: two armies existing of a small tribe of Beastmen and a small part of a freakish Skaven clan were, what we think, confronting each other. Then they noticed us and apparantly wanted to dispose of us first, we were clearly outnumbered four to one...
"Damn it...I think we should retreat. We can never handle those numbers at the same time" I said to my new Lother Champion. Ia'anandor, whom can only be seen by me cause of it's magical aura, sofly said "First, in becoming a great general, you must assess the situation. See what your options are. Clearly you are up against two armies but they do not assist each other. While you are in a different position..." with that said he disappeared, he does that a lot. "Sir Flamewalker" said a Shadow Warrior "We spotted a Lothern ship, not part of the Dragon's Legion. We still got some time and swim towards it, then we will ambush the beasts from the sea". "A navy tactic from Shadow Warriors? That's rare since you rather want your feet on the ground. Yet again, Shadow Warriors striking from the sea could be very dangerous. I like the idea...Navy Warriors" the Champion replied with a grin on it's face. "Very well, make contact with the High Elves, ask them for their assistance then come back to the main land" Mimas said.

We waited while their armies slowly approaching us but they still had a distance between eachother. We saw the Skaven grounding some sort of trebuchet while in the sea the High Elf ship turning about, moving towards us in high speed. As soon as the trebuchet was in place, it began throwing some kind of balls filled with bile. It missed a lot and then stopped firing.
The High Elf ship almost crash landed on the beach but elegantly turned to the side, revealing 2 small boats containing a small force of High Elves. When they rowed on shore, they quickly moved to our position.
Ten Lothern Sea Guard with a mage leading them and 5 Sisters of Avalorn.
With a casual wave this High Elf mage he greets me "Hail, I am Ga'Ben, fellow Elf of the glorious master race. I heard you required our assistance in dealing with these beasts" I could hear his pride in his way of talking. "We do and will be in your debt if we get out of here alive. This beach must be secured for the Dragon's Legion" I dont recognize their army colours but most of them do know the Dragon's Legion it's status and they will never pass the chance to gain higher status themselves in helping us. Such is the politics of High Elves, very tiredsome indeed...
"We will gladly help the Dragon's Legion! You must be sir Mimas Flamewalker, send here with the mission to find lost magical artifacts and heirlooms? Good, but my mission differ from yours. I am sent to claim this island for the Phoenix King and the glorious High Elf master race!" he almost sang the words as if said many times before. Someone who wants to rise up the ranks more through action than words, a quality rarely seen amongst Elves. A dangerous path but if proven succesfull then highly rewarded. I smiled back "Not an easy task, considering a lot of races with greed or foul heritage are already here on the island making their move. If we set a foothold on different parts of this island then it will be considerably easier to succeed. But first....let us get rid of those beasts first!"

The Beastmen and Skaven were moving in on us. We took our positions with me guarding the left flank and the sea, while Ga'Ben took his forces to cover the right flank. The Beastmen were on their way to meet my force and the Skaven wanted to take the fight with Ga'Ben his Elves. Suddenly we saw an armoured group of Beastmen turning around. Two groups of Shadow Warriors were attacking from the sea, firing arrows and circling around them. While my group of Warriors were keeping the Beastmen distracted, Ga'Ben his Warriors made a run for the war machine.
Meanwhile we were trying to lower the numbers of Beastmen and Skaven still approaching us. The Beastmen were quickly on the run with my forces in hot pursuit. Ga'Ben and his Elves were having difficulties...They were cornered till Ga'Ben made a bold move: charging the Clan Rats in order to break them and run through to meet my forces in the middle. It worked. No longer could the Plague Monks charge him.
In the distance we could see Sealandir and Ga'Ben his Shadow Warriors taking care of the war machine, that was no match for the skill and ferocity.

The Beastmen were on the run, the war machine destroyed and the Skaven Slaves and Clan Rats were dead but the real threat remained. A Skaven spellcaster and his plague monks. With our forces combined in the middle, trying to kill as many plague monks as possible, we heard a cackling voice from the Skaven leader "Ha hahaha! All the Elves now hugging each other? Good! You can hug each other in your newly formed graves made by me!"

A black dark cloud gathered around him, forming into shapes fo rats. When enough was gathered, he fired it at us. A swarm of dark rats engulfed in black smoke came racing towards us.
The Ellyrian Reavers and Sealandir were the first to be overran by the spell. We heard the screams of our brethren while they all felt down to the earth. Sealandir roared as she took wing and flew away with rats clinged on her, biting and gnawing at her. Then mine and Ga'ben our Sea Guard got hit...
I haven't seen more rats at on place that today. All of them were crawling over us and biting wherever they could. "Stay on your foot unless you want to be overrun!" I ordered the troops while kicking and bashing away rats.
One of the Guards I could see in the mayhem felt down and inmidiatley was jumped by dozens of rats.

It only lasted a minute or two but the damage was significant. I got off my knee with claw and bite marks all over me and looked around. Six Lothern Sea Guard remained in my unit and four in Ga'Ben his unit, he wasn't looking to well either. "You think you have won, Skaven, you think your magic is destructive! I will show you what real destruction feels like!" Ga'ben shouten and I felt a lot rage flowing through me...the rage of Khaine. I remembered my own rage and the effect it had while I was mearely dreaming. The effect of his rage while awake will be dire. I tried to warn him of the danger but was to late.
He was already casting a Soul Quench, radiating High Magic. When he fired the spell, it left with an explosion, knocking him back and destroying the remnats of his unit. The spell itself hitted the Plague Monks but the effect was less diserable, only a few Monks died.

I quickly took over and killed the remaining Skaven until the leader was dead by an hail of arrows.
We gathered around Ga'Ben and he looked pale but not dead. A faint pulse could be felt and was taken away by the Shadow Warriors. I left a note on him saying that if I find him on the island, that I regret what has happened and that I owe him my assisstance.
The beach was secured at a bloody cost.

Chapter 9: Illumination

Finaly...we entered the part of the forest and a bit of marshland where the source of the dark magic resided...How did I know this?
Apart from the thick mist hanging low and the dead trees that seemed to be looking down on us with an eerie glare, I felt a dark power throbbing before me. I was heavily drawn towards it.
I finaly understood what the Ogres meant what they were saying with 'dead meat'. The dark negative aura, dead trees and the last clue: dead meat. "Steel yourselves, brethren! There be undead lurking around!"
Inmediately I saw my fellow Elves readying themselves, focusing on what could jump out of the mist any moment.

And then we heared it...a soft heavy breathing coming from our two o'clock and the rattling of armour on our ten. Quickly I ordered the Ellyrian Reavers to cover the right flank with the Shadow Warriors and thin out the expected skeletons. I kept Sealandir close to counter attack an expected ambush. Then we saw them creeping close on our left flank: ghouls. We fired a salvo of arrows but they didn't buckle, they were undead and knew no fear.
The skeletons came into our sight and I began casting a Burning Gaze in an attempt to thin them out. it proved to be succesfull. Mist dispersed infront of us for a bit and we heard a cackle of a maniac on top of somekind of an old ruined building. "HA HA HAHAHA hee hee! Look at what seemed to be!" a Necromancer, and powerfull one at that. He flicked his hands and we heard some gutteral speach coming from him. It formed a sickening green wind that blew towards the remaining skeletons and out of a sudden more skeletons apeared from whirling bones connecting eachother. "Hehehe ho ho! Onwards my skeletons still go!" Damn it...that Necromancer hardly broke a sweat. I have to take him out.

"Keep firing, my brethren! I will take care of this evil..." A plan began to farm in my head, I smiled and prayed "I hope my magic won't fail me now" then I began chanting the sacred words and it worked.
A magical net of light formed above the skeletons and droped down on them, rooting them in place. The Net of Amyntok always was effective againts the sluggish troops of undead. Then I began chanting the next spell with a threatening stare at the Necromancer, who seemed to be having a disturbing look on his face.
"No no no! I will not let this mansion go!" I gave in to his humorous rhyming way of talking "Yes yes yes. Whatever you want, I couldn't care less!" and with the last words spoken I gazed at him and shot a burning light from out of my eyes and vanquished the Necromancer.

When he died, the undead army began to crumble. "Let us enter that ruined building" I said.
"But General, the ghouls and skeletons are still out there? It's not safe yet!" the new Lothern Champion replied. "Then might I suggest you take care of them while I investigate this power that I am drawn too"
I ran out of the Lothern Sea Guard unit and entered the so called mansion while the Champion yelled after me.
The next few moments were a bit of a haze. I entered the building and it felt...familiar somehow. I saw a working table with some magic scrolls, I picked a few up and tried to identify them but was distracted by a faint blue glowing light shining in the corner of my eye. I turned to look and saw it quickly disapear up the stairs. I heard the firing of arrows stopped and the marching orders of my troops to station outside the building "A new but smart champion" I smiled and ran up the stairs. On top of the stairs I saw a single door, warded with death magic but luckily I am a mage of Vaul, there is no magic that can not be broken.
I cast a minor Vaul's Unmaking spell and the runes disappeared. Through the door I entered a seemingly common room but a lingering warpstone magic, worse than I have seen outside, it looked like something was keeping the magic inside the room and harnessed it in keeping something else inside and then I saw it...
A cage shining with warpstone green metal bars keeping a large bright blue essence from breaking out. The essence felt...friendly. I saw a small flickering blue essence that already got my eye, circling around the cage as if waiting for me to set it free and I did. Again the words of Vaul were spoken but the bars didn't buckle so I focused more on the magic until the bars finaly shattered and freed the blue essence. Quickly it flew thrrough a second door, slightly disapointed of the mystery it left behind I heard the unholy shriek of a woman outside.

"You dispicable Elves! You ruined everything! Our base, our research everything! I will enjoy draining every ounch of your blood...oh yes, I will..." I entered the plateau where a large blood stain from the necromancer was on the floor and looked over to witness another army of ghouls and skeletons were aproaching the building from the sides. It's leader was...a she-vampire, looking dangerous as seductress from what I have read in journals. "Don't let them get the building!" I shouted at the Champion "But sir, why can't you take everything of use and leave through weak ghoul flank?" he replied. "I wasn't asking you, brother, I was ordering you, Champion! No foul unholy monster will desecrate this site and threaten our operations again! This place is the whole reason we came to this island, this place is part of our objective! Keep firing and outmanouver them, I will stall them as long as I can!"
The Champion nodded in response, looked at the Warriors and Reavers and they took off to circle around the Skeletons. He then turned his unit to fire at the ghouls while I was preparing trap for the Vampiress, another Net of Amyntok.
The ghouls were destroyed quickly by the hail of arrows from the Lothern Sea Guard and the Net was succesfully cast and was holding the Skeletons with the Vampiress in place while the Reavers and Warriors were shooting arrows into them. A couple of skeletons fell but she returned them back to their unlife state and seemed to be cursing at the golden Net.
"We all have to charge at the same time and deal with this unit! She summons more undead than we can shoot down!" the Champion ordered the troops and they followed. From the front the skeletons were charged by the Lothern Sea Guard of the Dragon's Scales. From the back they were charged by the Ellyrian Reavers of the Dragon's Swiftness, Shadow Warriors of the Dragon's Eyes and Sealandir the wyrmling dragon herself. Together they destroyed the skeletons, bit by bit. More were summoned by the vampiress and was becoming a danger in clawing her way through the entire Guard unit so the Champion sighed, looked at her and yelled "Come at me, vampire bitch! You will taste my blade first before you could ever taste my blood!" an idle challenge he thought, thinking she'd better take out the entire unit than a single guard captain. "So, you want to test your blade against me, Elf, than the stories must be true that your people will fall to pride sooner than Deamons! I will relish in your blood!"
They raced towards eachother while all the Elves including Sealandir knew exactly what the Champion was doing: sacrificing himself into buying them time to dispose of the skeletons. They stabbed, slashed and clawed through the skeletons as quickly as they could. Some with tears in their eyes, they all saw their Champion quickly perished by the terrible onslaught of the vampiress.
Then she abruptly stood up and turned around seeing the destruction of her unit, her shared lifeforce was ripped from her and they all turned to dust.

It grew silent over the woods, the fog faded away and Mimas noticed the dark throbbing power from inside the building disappearing. They buried there comrades and said their last regards, in particular the Champion.
When they were done, the marshland around them seemed to be have dried and the singing of birds could be heard again. They made a camp outside the ruined building while Mimas was inside investigating.
The building felt so familiar yet alien. He couldn't figure out what it was until he shoved a wall curtain to the side and saw a very old Elven rune carved in the stone. "By Asuryan, this rune predates the first Elven Phoenix King! Is the island that old? What has happened to the island that it disappeared for so long?" with the finding of the rune, putting a history date of before the island sank, more questions were raised then answered. Not that Mimas minded it, he grew more enthousiastic. This place was the whole reason of his expedition but he couldn't believe how important the mission was untill now! Then there was a familiar blue glow shining behind him. Mimas smiled and turned around. He was supriced at what he saw.

A blue glowing ghost of an old Elf, bearing the mark of a mighty warrior from times gone by, possibly a general.
"Thank you, brother, for finaly freeing me from the nightmare the Necromancer put me through. I don't know what happened but I will teach you what I know" he pointed at the scrolls and books "Let us start with those"

Chapter 8: The bigger they are

A week has passed with us resting in the forest, waiting for the return Ellyrian Reavers with reinforcements.
The forest remained grim and dark but on one day the sun was shining, dissapating the fog as though the good sun didn't allow the evil to persist...for now. We heard the sounds of marching and galloping horses to our location and saw a fresh unit of Lothern Sea Guard returned with new Ellyrian Reavers.
The Champion took a few steps out of his unit and saluted me "Lothern Sea Guard of the Dragon's Scales, detachment unit SD3 reporting for duty, general mage Flamewalker" very formal, probably new to his duties as a unit's champion. "Lothern Sea Guard and Ellyrian reaver units resupplied and I give news about Oriour Dakthai. Outpost has been constructed and troops have been ordered to gather resources from the surrounding area claimed by you in name of the Dragon's Roar". Finaly some positive news. The lands they had claimed were rich with wood and food and would serve in expanding Oriour Dakthai with reinforcing key positions they would come across.

"Your orders are to move more east, in search off the source of dark magic maintaining the fog and evil through out this area. Be on your guard, brethren, there has been lots of bloodshed and probably more monsters lurking in the dark" I said with a straight face towards the troops. The Shadow Warriors nodded in approval, havent forgotten what we have shared. "I read the report, sir, forgive me but there seems to be no fog here?" the champion replied. I smiled "No, not now. It seems the sun is at our side this day".

We crossed some open fields with a hill on the right flank. Out of nowhere Ogres appeared in the distance with a large group of Gnoblars. An Ogre walked up to that group, picked one up, to slow to react while the rest scattered away from the Ogre, and got eaten alive. What a horrific scene...
Then he turned to look at us, we were standing still awaiting their reaction. "Bah, Elven meat..." he responded, with a look of aggrevation then disgust "They run so fast before they get eaten...They give a good sport though!" he laughed and with it a sabretusk arrived on top of the hill and at the bottom three Maneaters.
"We have no desire in fighting you. Leave us alone, we have a mission in the lands behind you!" I shouted back. "Bwahahaha! There is nothing there but dead meat and wet lands" Dead meat?
"You will run, little Elf, then you die and we will eat you. You are better flesh that these!" and with that said, he stomped near the Gnoblars. Some flew a couple of meters away from the shockwave. "Attack, my brethren! Take the right flank, Reavers! Sealandir, go with them! Kill those Maneaters and sabretusk!"

The Ogres and Gnoblars marched forwards. Arrows were shot at the Ogres from the left forest, the Shadow Warriors were there attacking the flank. None of the Ogres got killed but some got arrows stuck in them and succesfully distracting them, Ogres weren't well known for tactical warfare.
The Reavers and Sealandir moved to the right flank to tackle the Maneaters. I decided to give them a hand and began casting Soul Quench. A power resided from within as if eager enough to blow up the Maneaters...to eager! A sudden surge of magic erupted and fired the spell towards the Maneaters, blowing them all up! I got knocked off my feet but the power did more devastation to my Guards, killing a few of them...magic is fickle...and the rest of the Lothern Sea Guards knew this.
The Gnoblars were all squabling about but steadily marched forward to meet us head on in combat.

Sealandir and the sabretusk were circling around eachother, playing some sort of waiting game until the sabretusk lost it's patience and charged forwards but Sealandir quickly took to the sky and flew over it. Then she turned around and charged the sabretusk, burying her claws deep into the skin of the creature. With a yelp it dies and Sealandir roared, then sank her teeth in the meat. Her first real kill that was evenly matched to her.

The Ellyrian Reavers were circling around the Gnoblars, firing arrows into them and the Sea Guard fired theirs until the Gnoblars ran away in fear. Their was only one group of Ogres left and they were growing bored by the distraction the Shadow Warriors made.
I began channeling a second Soul Quench but this time dismissed the sudden urge to overcharge my spell. It was enough to slay two of them and their general was left alone on the battlefield.
"You Elves really think I will give up? Bwahahaha!" He roared, still not impressed at his whole army being decimated. "No, Ogre, I expect you to die..." I replied calmly "Fire at will, Brethren!" and thus we fired everything we got. A lot of arrows got stuck in him and after a while it finaly died, still with a grin across it's face..."

Chapter 7: Taming the Beast

The next day we moved quietly through the forest. A fog was surrounding us and we were all on high alert.
We heard some breaking of twigs in the distance and decided to remain on our position. Then it grew really silent, like the calm before the storm. First a whisper "Master mage, we encountered more Beastmen but with different tribal markings, led by a seer" and then a sudden wind swept the fog away from the area, leaving us exposed. "Damn it, some dark magic is at work indeed, master" cursed the Champion and then came the third sign of disaster "WRRRROOOOOAAAAAAARRRRR!!!! Elves creeping on us! Looks like dinner has arrived although it hardly got some meat on them bones!"

What followed was chaos... The Beastmen Seer casts a spell and we saw his entire Beastmen unit roar and shout and...grow a bit! We fire all our arrows on them but it seemed like they bounced off their skin as if made from rock! Fearing we wouldn't survive a charge, I rerouted the units around them, trying to outmaneuver but doing that was no easy task.

I heard a short yelp from the left flank and turned my head for moment to see what happened: Sealandir was shot down by some smaller Beastmen and were now throwing a net over her. I wanted to help her but was struggling to even help myself and my unit of Guards.
The Reavers and Warriors finaly dispatched a small group of heavily armoured Beastmen but my unit was charged by the core unit with the seer. Lots of Elves died and naturally we ran from the onslaught.

A tactical retreat to get out of harms way because I rallied them yet again to make their last stand, a sacrifce for me to charge up a powerful Soul Quench. I saw with grief how my brethren died, giving their lives for me, and my hatred grew for these savages! While the Ellyrian Reavers hunted down those responsible for wounding Sealandir, the Shadow Warriors came between me and the Beastmen, giving me another moment.
Not needed, Khaine will have this moment. I will show them a raged Elf can be just as dangerous! I fired my Soul Quench, killing many Beastmen which caused the entire unit to flee from the battlefield.

Order was settled and I sented the Reavers back to Oriour Dakthai to get more reinforcements. "This curse of the Dark Forest must be put down if we are to hold the outpost! Me and the remaining Elves will stay here with Sealandir to secure this area"
The last thing happened, like we could hear a heavy sigh and with it the dense fog returned to envelop us...

Chapter 6: The Bearded Nightmare

We ventured deeper into this dark forest until we saw some ancient ruins of unknown origins. There was a fire burning behind it and with lots of noices. "Damn it, Dwarfs...and by the smell of it, they have gunpowder" whispered the Lothern Champion. "Let's avoid them, for now. There is not many  dangers in this world than a drunk Dwarf and I have no desire to get into a quarrel with them" I replied.

Then suddenly repeated firing was heard and then a loud voice "Which pointy eared Elf dares to disturbs our feast! This place is ours and no Elf is going to tell me otherwise!"
After a couple of minutes our Shadow Warriors returned. "That was very...unproffesional..." said one of the Warriors while another replied that a spider creeping on your neck makes screaming a logical response.
"We are merely passing through, Dwarf, and we do not mean to interrupt your feast..." I shouted back and the next thing we knew, guns were blazing from out of the ruins. "Damn it, damn them all to death!" I felt some dark power creeping all over me, the Wind of Death.

All of the fast scout forces were redirected towards the east side of ruined buildings while the main force of Lothern Sea Guard remained with me.
Guns were blazing and the fearsome power of the Organ Gun was heard across the battlefield, we couldn't take an inch of their territory so I ordered something daring...
The Ellyrian Reavers, Shadow Warriors and Sealandir were to move towards the Organ Gun while the Lothern Sea Guard gave cover fire.
It could have worked, but it seems that misfortune gripped our forces. It became a massacre.
Suddenly the Sea Guard failed with firing their arrows, same with Reavers and Warriors, and Dwarfs somehow knew exactly where our troops were deployed and responded accordingly. Every Elf I sent towards the Organ Gun was slaughtered horribly. My heart felt an intense grief which quickly was gripped by hatred. My troops wanted to run but I told them to be steadfast, I will have my vengeance!
The dwarfs came charging in, killing a lot of Elves and we ran but I knew that was my diversion. "Why did I recklessly offered my troops for this personal dispute?" I thought but the next thing I know it, I suddenly turned around with some remaining Elves and began chanting a Death spell, it sounded like a curse. The Dwarf coward faltered and I fired my spell at him. I could see him gasping for air while I cackled in laughter while I was choking him in mid-air untill he felt down. Then I realised what I have done...

"Mimas, Mimas! Wake up!" I opened my eyes and felt a headache while my eyes adjusted to the darkness.
I saw my brethren around me alive and well but shaking with fear. I could see? By Vaul, what has happened? No, I just see them as if their outlines are sprinkled with green magical dust! "What's wrong? Why are you all so afraid?" They were supriced at me directly looking at them. "We were all having nightmares but you seem to suffer the most off it" replied on them "but we dared not shake you from your sleep"
"Why not?" I answered, hearing my own trembling voice, still shaken up by the nightmare. I saw them looking at the ground surrounding me. All the gras and flowers withered and died in a five feet radius. The Wind of Death surely gripped me hard and tight if I did this in my sleep. "I think it's this place. Something must be radiating foul magics enchanting this area with darkness, even haunting us in our sleep. Let us try to catch our breath and we will look for the cause of all of this." I hesitated for a second or two and continued "As for my sudden outburst of death around me...let's just say I don't want to come across Dwarfs any time soon..."

Chapter 5: A Dark Forest

After the slaughter at the beach head, I ordered the Lothern Sea Guard to start building our outpost 'Oriour Dakthai', meaning Blood Claw in remembrance of the blood the Legion has spilled on this beach.

In front of us was a dark forest that needed to be explored in order to secure our Oriour Dakthai. It was surpricingly quiet in the forest that even the Shadow Warriors grew uneasy and then suddenly a loud roar when we saw Beastmen running through a clearing in the forest, straight towards us!

At the beginning I silenced all noices around me and looked inward...then I saw their leader in my mind with glittering armour, I knew what I had to do and asked the High Magic wind to come to my aid, it whispered back "Vaul's Unmaking". Excelent, that will single out their leader.
I then quickly ordered the troops around, mainly the Ellyrian Reavers to go with Sealandir to hide behind a ruined fence. Only the lesser Beastmen with bows noticed them but they were quickly put down.
Spells upon spells were being cast by me on their Beastlord but to no avail... Cursing my so called succes upon obtaining the perfect spell for the situation, I tried to blast the main Beastmen unit with Soul Quench. It was dispelled by my enemy. My magic is failing me...

The Shadow Warriors were having diffilculties with the second group of lesser Beastmen and were then silenced.
The sudden feel of despair I felt because of the loss of the previous battle came up. I wanted to run but I heard the Lothern Sea Champion yelling his orders to his unit to put the beasts down and I saw their succes and my hope grew.

We were moving around the battlefield a lot that I noticed the ruined fence behind us. The Champion saw me looking aswell and ordered our troops towards it.
The next couple of minutes were chaotic. Beastmen were heading our way but after some casualties...they fled.
Our unit stood still after that, waiting for them to return but they never came back. I decided to return back to Oriour Dakthai for some well deserved rest and replenishments.

Chapter 4: Beach head

Finaly, I have been sent to this mysterious island that has emerged itself from the depths of the sea.
Not much is known about this island other than that the Elves know about it's existence but almost forgotten. We actually inhabited the island but lost communication, perhaps lost to Chaos during the great wars and now...it's back with all it's lost treasures and Elven relics but most of all...it's ancient lore!
Now I know that this island didn't go unnoticed by the other races and that's why I have to move fast.
I gathered a small but fast reconnaissance force, they were all specialized. The Ellyrian Reavers were fast, the Shadow Warriors in scouting and the Lothern Sea Guard were used to being in strange places. The young dragon, Sealandir, has shown great anticipation of what is to come. He could see a kind of children's exitement in her eyes. Although she has been trained to fight, I do mean fight and not reared, she hasn't seen any real battle yet.
"Sir!" the Sea Guard Captain called for him "At long last the storm has settled and the spotter sees a island ahead of us. What are your orders, Sir?" Mimas didn't need to think for long "Anchor near the beach head and spare me ten of your guards for the landfall"

"Alright Shadow Warriors, scout ahead in the left forest. The Ellyrian Reavers will move with Sealandir to the right, I think she wants to warm up her wings for a bit just like the horses will be glad to touch the ground after the long trip. I want the Lothern Sea Guard near me at all times and remember to be on your toes, there is a strange wind blowing through the air with hints of magic"

We were making a simple camp while the rest were scouting ahead. Prince Perrion would want a proper base to house is forces because this island will soon be a place of bloodshed. But for the time being, I will enjoy this new land and set eyes on things never seen before.

"Mage Flamewalker, the Ellyrian Reavers have returned scouting the beach!" said the Sea Guard captain. The Reavers are back to soon... "To war, brethren! They are on being persuited!" yelled Mimas.
"Pursuited? Who could be that fast to persuit the Reavers?" he got his answer. A unit of knights with turbans halted while five riders with which seems to be carrying pistols were flanking the knights.
The Ellyrian horse riders approached, while Sealandir landed behind them. "They were firing at us with no reason, general mage, but they were missing every shot!" gasped one of the Reavers, still gasping for air. "They were doing that on purpose, they were trying to find us" replied Mimas.

"You pointy eared Elves got some magic items?" yelled one of the knights from a far. Mimas looked at the Sea Guard champion and nodded. "We got none!" replied the champion.
"You Elves must surely be lying then. You Elves always got something carrying with you and we are going to take it!"
We saw them move towards us with great speed so I ordered the Reavers to go with Sealandir to guard our right flank. "Kill those pistoleers! They will pierce our armour easily! Let's hope the Shadow Warriors are near us". They were. We saw the a group of five pistoleers on our left side engaging 'something' in the woods and then we saw arrows being fired from them, killing three pistoleers, which made them flee from the battle.
On our right side the other five pistoleers tried to shoot Sealandir but she only got grazed by her wings. Angered with this, she charged the pistoleers and killing two. The Ellyrian Reavers tried to intervene but Sealandir was charged by the knights, cutting her down. But before the deathstroke has been given, they regrouped to face the Lothern Sea Guard. I casted a Soul Quench spell and two knights died which in turn only angered them even more. They charged and although we fought bravely, we lost. I was struck down while seeing one pistoleer shooting the last of the Shadow Warriors down and then took a look at the weapon of the knight before it came down but I pass out right before it. Or did it?

I woke up to the looks of a weary looking Elf. It was one of the Reavers. "Thank Asuryan, you are still alive!" he sighed with a relief. Mimas got up to his knees and looked around. He and another Reaver were the only survivors of this onslaught. "The turban knight fled the scene when we killed his last knight in his unit. What orders, general Mimas?" General...this is a grim day. On my first landfall the sand was painted red with blood...Elven blood. "Gather up the dead and let's give them a proper burial. I signal the ship for reinforcements while I heal Sealandir" She was hidden between the corpses of the dead horses she has slain and moaned. "My pride has a dent aswell, Sealandir. The next time we go to battle, we will tremble but learn of our naive mistake"

First battle of the Fantasy Campaign with 500 pts High Elves vs. Vincent v/d Berg 500 pts Empire.
Result: Draw but claimed the beach head.
General: Defeated with a -1 leadership on it's next battle.

Background story of Mimas Flamewalker

Chapter 1: A formal introduction
It has been a while since we traveled the world in search of old Elfish heirlooms and magical artifacts that are rightfully ours or too keep them out of dangerous hands. We retreated back to Ulthuan, the mountains of Caledor to be precise.
I am Perrion, an elf prince bestowed the honor of riding a dragon into battle battle and general of the Dragon’s Legion. I am proud to be a part of bringing back glory from the old days, every heirloom brings a piece of our culture back and every artifact out of Ulthuan’s enemies reach is a step closer in maintaining a fragile peace.

There are many stories I can tell and many things I have seen but now is not the time. No, I am going to tell the tale of my most trusted advisor, connoisseur of craftsmanship and a powerful mage in its own right. But I feel his time has come to move to the next phase of his already long life.
Mimas Flamewalker has had a long history as an student at the region of Saphery. When at a certain age and knowledge he was particularly interested in magical arts and craftsmanship so he moved to Vaul’s Anvil. He then underwent the ritual of Vaul and blinded himself. He told me once about this ritual where he experienced great deals of pain but also an understanding as if Vaul opened his eyes towards all that is magical. He once saw a beautiful green glow like the Aurora Borealis forming before him, warning us the Orcs were in their state of rage.
When I was a young prince and tasked with finding heirlooms and artifacts, they tasked mage Flamewalker to assist me in my endeavors. He identified countless of items and even saved our lives more than once. We encountered a small guerilla force from Empire in the jungles of Lustria claiming they found a powerful artifact of the Lizardmen. I was young and inexperienced but tried to negotiate some kind of a deal. They wouldn’t give it. In my pride and frustration I almost waged war on them, with a certain jungle fight disadvantage, but Mimas stopped me. He said that it was not worth the bloodshed. I wasn’t able to give in just yet and, my foolish pride, even put Mimas back at his place. He then put a soft hand on my shoulder at which I shivered while looking seriously in my eyes “This holy artifact of the Lizardmen is not worth the bloodshed”. We parted the group and move inwards into the jungle when we suddenly heard screams from behind us, human screams. We all stopped for a moment but Mimas kept on walking saying the artifact contained no magical properties but stealing a relic from Lizardmen would still invoke their wrath and that is what we were hearing. We continued, nobody said a word. I approached the mage, whispered my apology and that I owed him my life and more importantly, my honor. Even then he amazed me by smiling, still with his head directed on the path before him, “I owe you this incredible adventure, young prince, for the things I have seen and learned are beyond words”.

Chapter 2: The addition, separation and war
Our campaign was slow but successful, traveling around the world is no feat that can be done easy and fast. But in time the council and king saw more worth in our cause and added a unit of Phoenix Guard to protect it, that important was it as the sacred Shrine of Asuryan.
Some Shadow Warriors joined our army and were more adventurous than war-like. Still they were quite useful as scouts on long journey’s. Sometimes the Lothern Elves on board our ships battled beside us and sometimes our spearmen were enough.

After a long while I received the most marvelous words written upon a letter: A dragon has awaken and I have been tasked to guide it. I was at awe and pride when I gazed upon the dragon, Draugniron. He looked right back at me as if he could feel my pride and respect. He bowed for me so I could mount him and then with a mighty roar he took me to the skies. Now I understood why the Dragon Princes of Caledor were arrogant and sad when they tell me their tales of dragon riding, the feeling of power and mutual respect is very special.

Draugniron wasn’t the only reason we traveled back to Ulthuan. Mimas Flamewalker was entitled as most valuable and could not be spared. He was to remain in Saphery to carry his knowledge on to the next generation mages and sorcerers. He was highly against it but I persuaded him that it was time for him to settle down and rest. Even Mimas could feel the fire of his pride burning.
But after a couple of years I received a letter from the White Tower of Hoeth. Mimas was apparently very restless and had no patience for his slow students. He gave orthodox lessons in which he praised students to learn more from the field than from books when they were done, “If all the knowledge of the world could be stored, the best place would be your mind”.
He was ‘ordered’ to return to the Dragon’s Legion but not alone. He apparently had a student that was on equal footing with the mage and also gave the university a great deal of problems with her
impulsive actions. Sifre Morninglight was a sorceress that specializes in the Lore of Life. I think that was the reason they enjoyed each other’s company since the old mage has already seen much in his life time but is still very much adventurous.

Before we set off, we were tasked with something different. We were ordered to engage in war to settle different disputes for the defense of Ulthuan. The battles lasted long and we have seen lots of bloodshed. For a prince like me, it was a test of leadership for the future and it has taught me well. For the young adventurous sorceress, it taught her to be more thoughtful of life. But for the old mage, it stilled his passion for traveling and learning. He was troubled but never faltered.

Chapter 3: The Dragon’s Roar
On our return in Lothern we received news from Saphery that a tropical island suddenly emerged from the bowels of the sea. This island was never heard from but the vaguest old inscriptions in books from a time long forgotten. It could contain vast amounts of lore, artifacts and heirlooms. I saw a new flickering in Mimas his eyes and I saw my chance to write a letter to the White Spire of Saphery.
I stayed longer than usual in Lothern, gave my men some more shore leaf and waited for the news to return.

“By decree of the High Elf Council and the Phoenix King, Mimas Flamewalker has been ordered to gather an expedition force towards the mysterious island. His mission is to gather intelligence about the island, retrieve long lost artifacts and train an awoken young dragon named Sealandir. Additional forces will be granted after fortifying beach head”

It has been a long while but I saw Mimas smile again. He thanked me for the opportunity I gave him even though I didn’t mention his recommendation to the king and council. I told him I would visit him when I can or even reinforce his position but I also told him to enjoy his new adventure.

So now he left the Lothern shores with a handful of Elven brethren on his way to this unexplored mystical island. He called its expedition force ‘The Dragon’s Roar’ for the island will hear the roar before set eyes upon the Legion.
“Will he be alright on his journey? Maybe I should go with him?”
“He will do fine, miss Morninglight. He will sent letters regularly and this is something he has to do, but I think you will miss him more than fear for his life. You will probably join him soon enough”
She smiled and will wait, in secret a bit jealous of what seemed to be one the greatest adventures mage Mimas Flamewalker has been set upon.
